I'm using same trepidation as Tom to approach our new business, we've been offered VC but are holding off until we have our product cobbled together in some fashion in order to really test the idea!

requires honesty as well. otherwise there is a 'survivor bias' to the stories - only companies and managers that survive tell their stories. you never hear stories like 'method X is crap - it destroyed my business, broke up my family...'. this kind of policy turns Ivey into an advertising platform for 'guru of the month', not a serious school.over the last few years, there has been a growing feeling that the MBA programs are seriously broken. this is an example of why.

Hello Alan,

You had just recently came to Trent, for our business presentations on your book, and you asked me if I would let you know what I think about it. I thought it was a great idea for a business. I just want to send my regards and respects as I think that it was good of you to take the next step and press forward with a business that you thought would be a great success. So many people now-a-days think of ideas like this and do nothing about it. I am glad you at least attempted.
Your book was great I enjoyed reading it. It was a really easy read.
Thanks for coming to Trent, it was great having you.
-Nathan Hogle

I've been trying to get a business off the ground for the last year. I am fully aware that my business may fail in the future. I've started to tinkering with the idea for an exit strategy. Maybe certian milestones or times when I need to throw in the towel before more money gets thrown into what later may be a deep, dark pit.

This is great Alan. I love your wit and wisdom. I like what you say about people expecting things to be bad for you and are skeptical of things that are good for you. Lets you and I try to change that paradigm - let's get people expecting the good news and skeptical of the bad news
